Each school has a "basic" rating assigned based on the level of game and the individual program at that school. When a match is scheduled the match rating is assigned based on the rating of the highest school participating. In certain cases this rating may be adjusted based on knowledge of the teams involved to arrive at the match rating. The rating of each match is part of the match information on the web and can be seen by all.
The objective of the match rating and official rating is to attempt to match officials capable of officiating the match. An official with a rating equal to or higher than the game rating is the primary objective for both Referee and Assistant Referee positions. In certain cases when this cannot be accommodated we will assign a lower rated official to a game. This can also be the case when an official has requested an evaluation at a higher level to qualify for a change in their rating.
